Deputy Speaker Marinkovic and Guatemalan Foreign Minister Talk Advancing Parliamentary Cooperation

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic met with Sandra Jovel Polanco, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guatemala, to discuss expanding the parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

The officials agreed that the establishment of parliamentary friendship groups should be the first step in this endeavour, as well as the opening of embassies in Serbia and Guatemala respectively. They also consider the participation of a Guatemalan delegation in the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Belgrade in October as a good opportunity to advance cooperation between the parliamentarians.

Deputy Speaker Marinkovic thanked the Minister for Guatemala’s principled stance on Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and the Ambassador stressed that Guatemala would continue to support Serbia in the matter.

In the course of the meeting the officials concluded that there is ample room to advance economic, political and cultural cooperation.

Speaking to the Guatemalan Minister, Marinkovic said: “Your visit to Serbia is strategically very important because it will give impulse to reflect parliamentary cooperation at the bilateral level”.
