The National Assembly delegation which took part in the Second Sports Games of European Parliamentarians, held in Moscow from 17 to 19 September, brought back three medals to Belgrade.

Deputy Srdjan Spasojevic won first place in chess and became tournament individual events champion, while the National Assembly’s football and chess teams won the silver and bronze medal respectively.

The Second Sports Games of European Parliamentarians were organised by the Russian Duma under the patronage of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Federal Assembly, the Government of the Russian Federation and the Moscow City Hall. On the occasion, a roundtable was organised at the Russian Duma on Problems in sport and anti-doping control where the parliamentarians highlighted the need to establish closer cooperation between the committees dealing with sports matters in the national parliaments, adding that the biggest problems sports face today are hooliganism, inadequate infrastructure and poor legislative regulation. In addition to the sports programme, ceremonial part and visits to historical sights, the National Assembly delegation made a series of informal parliamentary contacts and had the opportunity to gain insight into the work of the Russian State Duma.

The National Assembly Delegation comprised 12 deputies who took part in four sports events: football – Aleksandar Pejcic, Filip Stojanovic (delegation head), Dobrislav Prelic, Milan Lapcevic, Zoran Kasalovic, Djordje Milicevic, Tamas Tot and Dejan Nikolic; chess – Srdjan Spasojevic and Igor Becic; tennis – Stevica Spajic and table tennis – Miljan Randjelovic.

The full cost of the National Assembly delegation’s participation in the Second Sports Games of European Parliamentarians was covered by the host, the Russian Duma.
