Danube Parliamentarians Hold First Conference

The First Conference of Danube Parliamentarians took place on 11 and 12 July 2013 in Ulm, Federal Republic of Germany.


MP Maja Gojkovic, the National Assembly’s representative at the Conference, gave an overview of the programmes and projects within the legal framework of the Danube Strategy, that the Republic of Serbia takes part in.

Speaking of the projects of Golubac Fortress rehabilitation, construction of the marina and wastewater processing facility in Veliko Gradiste, Gojkovic reminded the participants of the still unrealized Danube Media Centre project, with headquarters in Novi Sad. The participants of the Conference were informed of the European Commission’s decision that Serbia should coordinate the spheres of railway, air and road transport with the Republic of Slovenia and the spheres of economy, knowledge and science with the Republic of Slovakia. MP Gojkovic stressed that Serbia had submitted more than 20 projects linked to the Danube Strategy Action Plan. In her address she supported the idea to hold regular meetings of the representatives of the Conference of Danube Parliamentarians so as to allow national and regional parliaments to intensively monitor the implementation of the Danube Strategy.

The participants of the First Conference of Danube Parliamentarians discussed topics such as the objectives and scope of the Danube Strategy, Danube Strategy from the viewpoint of the European Commission and the role of the legislative in the Danube cooperation process.

In addition to the National Assembly delegation, the First Conference of Danube Parliamentarians was also attended by the delegations of FR Germany, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, province of Baden-Württemberg, province of Bavaria, province of Upper Austria, province of Lower Austria and the province of Vienna. Representatives of the European Parliament also attended the session.
