Dacic Receives Part of Former Assembly Fence

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic was ceremoniously handed over a part of former Assembly fence by the Mayor of Ohrid Konstantin Georgievski.

Dacic said that this act testifies to the friendly relations between the two countries and expressed gratitude, on behalf of all Serbian citizens, for the opportunity to find the authentic fragment of the fence which surrounded the National Assembly House in the period from 1936 to 1958, on the parliamentary plateau.

The Mayor of Ohrid said he was most pleased to be able to give testament to the friendly relationship between the two peoples with the gesture of handing over the fence. He said that the part that was returned to the National Assembly, after dismantling, decorated Villa Biljana, where Josip Broz Tito used to occasionally stay.

The National Assembly Speaker said that the remaining parts of the fence are located in the Belgrade Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments and Dedinje palace complex. He stressed that the plan is not to re-erect the entire fence around the National Assembly House, but the installation of this one part is a historical review of kind of the 85th anniversary of the National Assembly, marked this year. By the way, the fence was constructed according to the project of architect Nikolay Krasnov who designed the National Assembly House itself.

The handover was attended by the Ambassador of North Macedonia to Serbia, MPs and representatives of the Belgrade City Assembly.
