The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic received a delegation headed by H.E. Ambassador Dr Badr Abdel Aty, Assistant Minister for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt and H.E. Ms Ghada Shalaby, Vice Minister at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquity of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
H.E. Ambassador Dr Badr Abdel Aty congratulated National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic on taking office and wished him success in his further work. He also conveyed congratulations and cordial greetings from Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.
National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic said that Serbia and Egypt share decades of sincere friendship and should continue to improve it, primarily by strengthening cooperation in areas of common interest.
He opined that the parliamentary cooperation with Egypt is very good. As a positive fact, he pointed out the existence of a legal basis for improving the cooperation between the two parliaments - the Protocol on Cooperation, signed in June 2019.
Ivica Dacic expressed his desire to continue to deepen and strengthen parliamentary cooperation, which a regular exchange of visits of the speakers of parliament would undoubtedly contribute to, as well as the activities of the parliamentary friendship groups.
Assistant Minister for European Affairs of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdel Aty added that the session of the Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation and the Business Council, planned to be held in 2021 in Cairo, will give additional impulse to the development of bilateral cooperation.
H.E. Ms Ghada Shalaby, Vice Minister at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquity of the Arab Republic of Egypt, said that tourism is an important field of cooperation between Egypt and Serbia. She thanked the Government of Serbia and tourist operators for promoting Egypt as a tourist destination, and mentioned that Serbian tourists came in fourth place this year, with about 26 thousand visitors.
The officials agreed that the common goal is to strengthen cooperation in international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement, Serbia and Egypt being among its founders, and which will mark its 60th anniversary next year.
At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Serbia, H.E. Amr Fathi Aljowaily took the opportunity to present National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic with a congratulatory note from the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Egypt, Dr Ali Abdel-Aal, on taking up his new position.
