Culture and Information Committee Chairperson Talks to Iranian Delegation

The Chairperson of the Culture and Information Committee, Vesna Marjanovic talked today to a delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, headed by the head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organisation, Dr Mahadi Mostafavi.

The Iranian guests were greeted by the National Assembly Secretary General, Veljko Odalovic who welcomed them on the behalf of the National Assembly Speaker, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic.

The bilateral relations between Serbia and Iran were deemed good and both sides expressed interest to further develop and improve cooperation, particularly in the field of economy. The potential for establishing closer inter-parliamentary cooperation was also highlighted.

Both sides stated that the two countries advocate observance of international law and have similar positions regarding important international issues.

Culture and Information Committee Chairperson Vesna Marjanovic stressed that Serbia values Iran’s principled support in the UN, of the efforts to keep Kosovo-Metohija.

In the discussion, the officials shared thoughts on the situation in the two countries’ cultures. Dr Mahadi Mostafavi said that Iran pays great attention to the development of culture in all its aspects, and that it has a culture development plan for the next 20 years. He deemed that signing a cooperation programme in the fields of culture, science, education, youth and sports between the Iranian and Serbian governments shall contribute to the intensification of cooperation in these fields, as well as strengthen overall relations between the two countries.
