Constantly Growing Steel Friendship between Serbia and China

Today, the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with China Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic and the PFG members had their first meeting with the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Serbia Chen Bo.

Prof. Dr. Zarko Obradovic welcomed the Chinese Ambassador saying that this legislature’s Parliamentary Friendship Group is even larger than the previous one, bosting 126 members. Obradovic thanked the People's Republic of China for its immense help during the pandemic, not only in medical equipment, but also in 3,000,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines. He went on to say that such cooperation would not be possible were it not for the great respect and unity of the two presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Xi Jinping.

Addressing the MPs, Ambassador Chen Bo sincerely thanked Serbia for the consistent commitment to a comprehensive strategic partnership, adding that any result of the relations between China and Serbia, belongs in part to the MPs. She said that the relations between China and Serbia have passed the test against the pandemic and are successfully continuing on the path of further development. "The two countries are fighting the epidemic, side by side, we share the good and the bad, and our steel friendship is constantly growing. Our cooperation in the fight against the pandemic has become an international example", the Ambassador pointed out. She said that the first contingent of Chinese vaccines against the coronavirus arrived in Serbia only 16 days after the registration of the Sinopharm vaccine in China. She said that the Serbia and China’s fight against the pandemic is taking place on two fronts, the first is the fight against the virus and the second is the fight for economic recovery. "No major project involving Chinese companies has been disrupted since the beginning of the pandemic. The Belgrade-Budapest railway route construction project and the section of Milos Veliki (Milos the Great) highway construction project have made significant progress", said Chen Bo. She added that Chinese companies from Smederevo and Bor became Serbia’s first and third largest exporters last year, and both are fully committed to solving environmental problems. The Ambassador added that projects for the construction of the subway in Serbia are being prepared, as well as an infrastructure project for solid waste disposal and a project for water purification, which indicate the vitality of the two countries’ friendship and economic growth. "China is the first country in the world to bring the fight against the pandemic under control and to recover economically." In 2020, China recorded 2.3% economic growth and eradicated poverty 10 years earlier than projected by the United Nations 2030 Agenda. The Ambassador also spoke about China's foreign policy and cooperation with the United States, noting that the two countries, although they have different social systems, can find a way to coexist and progress together, which is in the interest of global politics.

Zarko Obradovic reminded the guest that the National Assembly had signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Chinese National People’s Congress, which further strengthened parliamentary ties, and that the China-Serbia Parliamentary Cooperation Commission, which meets annually, has so far had two meetings, with a new one scheduled for June this year, to be held via video conference. Obradovic also said that the Parliamentary Friendship Group has visited China three times so far.

The meeting was attended by a large number of members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with China, who highlighted the unbreakable ties between the two countries and the great friendship that accompanies them.
