Committee and Parliamentary Group Chairs Talk to Tunisian Parliamentarian

The chairpersons of several National Assembly committees met today with a Tunisian parliamentary delegation.


The officials agreed that the two countries’ traditionally good and friendly relations call for a boost in interparliamentary cooperation. The Committee chairpersons informed the Tunisian parliamentarians on their respective committees’ scope and structure, and the Tunisian delegation asked about the representation of ethnic minorities at the National Assembly and the role of the civil sector in parliamentary life.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality Meho Omerovic, Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary, Public Administration and Local Self-Government Petar Petrovic, Olgica Batic and Ljiljana Malusic as representatives of the Committee on Administrative, Budgetary, Mandate and Immunity Issues, and Aleksandar Cotric as representative of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region.

The Tunisian parliamentary delegation also met with representatives of the National Assembly parliamentary groups. The Head of the Serbian Progressive Party Parliamentary Group Zoran Babic, Head of the Boris Tadic – Social Democratic Party, Together for Serbia, Greens of Serbia Parliamentary Group Marko Djurisic, Deputy Head of the Social Democratic Party of Serbia Parliamentary Group Milena Bicanin, Deputy Head of the United Serbia Parliamentary Group Petar Petrovic and representative of the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia Parliamentary Group Vera Paunovic presented their respective parliamentary groups’ work at the National Assembly to the Tunisian parliamentarians. They also discussed the dynamics of the National Assembly’s operation and the legislation passed with the aim of social reform and progress in the European integration process. The Tunisian parliamentarians asked about the relationship between the National Assembly and independent state bodies, trade unions and civil society organisations.

The Tunisian delegation is visiting Serbia within the programme organised by the International Republican Institute (IRI).
