Today at the National Assembly House, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu, with whom she spoke about furthering overall bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Turkey, and above all, intensifying parliamentary cooperation.

Minister Davutoglu stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation for the overall relations between the two countries and conveyed the greetings of the Turkish Parliament Speaker to the National Assembly Speaker. He stated that regional cooperation is highly important for both countries, as well as further development of political and economic relations between Serbia and Turkey.

Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic agreed that bilateral cooperation should be raised to a higher level in view of Serbia and Turkey’s shared goal of approaching the European Union. Consequently, the laws from the road map for the EU need to be passed, which will contribute to improve the life and safety of the citizens. She added that parliamentary cooperation should be intensified on the level of both parliaments’ relevant committees in charge of foreign affairs and European integrations and on the level of parliamentary friendship groups.

The meeting between the National Assembly Speaker and Turkish Foreign Minister was attended by the President of the Serbia-Turkey friendship group at the National Assembly, deputy Bajram Omeragic.
