Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic Talks to Kuwaiti Prime Minister

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic talked today to the Prime Minister of Kuwait, H. E. Sheikh Nasser Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah about possible forms of cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the state of Kuwait, including cooperation between their respective National Assemblies.

Prime Minister Al-Sabah stressed the importance of cooperation between Kuwait and Serbia on the foreign policy plane, as well as spheres of finance, health, culture, trade and investment. He added that cooperation between the two parliaments is highly important for the improvement of overall cooperation between the two countries, extending the greetings of Kuwait’s Parliament Speaker to the National Assembly Speaker as well as an invitation to pay an official visit to Kuwait at the beginning of next year.

Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic agreed with the statement that developing economic cooperation accompanies a high level of political cooperation and friendly relations. She pointed out that the National Assembly had adopted legislative documents ensuring investment safety in Serbia and added that Serbia has at its disposal considerable natural resources, tradition of specialised industry and professional and quality human resources.

On the behalf of the Serbian citizens and deputies, the Assembly Speaker thanked Prime Minister Al-Sabah for his country’s principled position regarding Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. She added that the Kosovo-Metohija issue has been transferred onto the plane of international law and that Kuwait’s support means a lot to Serbia as it awaits the ruling of the International Court of Justice. The Assembly Speaker expressed her belief that an exchange of parliamentary delegations and communication within friendship groups would contribute to deepen overall cooperation between Serbia and Kuwait.

Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic and Prime Minister Al-Sabah also discussed the number and structure of deputies and representation of women in both parliaments.

Prime Minister Al-Sabah was pleased with the visit to the National Assembly and admired the architectural characteristics of the National Assembly House.

The meeting between the National Assembly Speaker and the Prime Minister of Kuwait was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Sheikh Dr Muhammad Al-Sabah Al-Salim Al-Sabah and the Minister of Trade and Industry, H.E. Ahmad Rashid Al-Harun.
