At its sitting held on 9 November, the Constitutional Issues Committee discussed the Constitutional Bill for the Implementation of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, proposed by the Government.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee’s chairman, Predrag Markovic.

Expressing his pleasure at the ‘historic decisions to adopt, confirm, and proclaim the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia’, the representative of the Bill’s submitter, Dr Zoran Loncar, Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government, underscored the importance of ‘simultaneously adopting the proposed Constitutional Act, the result of the broadest consensus between parliamentary political parties.’

Having consulted and discussed the Bill, the Committee resolved to propose its adoption in principle to the National Assembly.

The Committee also discussed 17 amendments submitted to the Bill, and resolved to propose the adoption by the National Assembly of four amendments submitted by deputy Predrag Markovic, and the rejection of two amendments submitted by deputy Miloljub Albijanic.

The amendments endorsed by the Committee were accepted by the representative of the Bill’s submitter, and became integral parts of the Constitutional Bill for the Implementation of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia.

After agreement was reached to withdraw all amendments unlikely to obtain a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly, the submitter’s representatives withdrew 11 amendments.

The Committee’s chairman, Predrag Markovic, was designated Committee Rapporteur at the National Assembly sitting to discuss the Bill.
