51st Sitting of the European Integration Committee

At the sitting held on 18 January, the European Integration Committee discussed the Advertising Bill, submitted by the Government, in principle.

The Advertising Bill was elaborated by Assistant Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Jovan Stojic who said that though Serbia has a law on advertising, it had been in effect since 2005 and the market has undergone considerable change since then, primarily due to digitalisation and advertising over the Internet is not regulated by this law.

“For the first time we try to define public advertising which the Bill places into the purview of local self-governments, and we try to regulate Internet advertising and advertising of electronic cigarettes”, stressed Stojic. The Bill also regulates the advertising of alcoholic drinks in view of the arrival of beverages with low alcohol content. After a debate the Committee members accepted the Advertising Bill, submitted by the Government, in principle.

The Committee then proceeded to select a delegation for the meeting of the Chairpersons of Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union COSAC, 7 and 8 February 2016, The Hague, which is to comprise Aleksandar Senic and Vesna Markovic. The Committee also selected Committee Chairman Aleksandar Senic to represent it at the conference “Benefits of EU enlargement – what the applicant countries could learn from the EU and what the EU could learn from them”, in Sofia, 26 and 27 February 2016.
