37th Sitting of the Environmental Protection Committee

At the sitting held on 6 December, the Environmental Protection Committee reviewed the Ministry of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning Activity Information for the period August - September 2013. The Information was presented by Milan Bacevic, Minister of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning.


The Committee also discussed the issue of justified nickel research and exploitation on the territory of the Municipality of Trstenik. Minister Milan Bacevic and Ministry State Secretary responsible for mining and geology Tomislav Subaranovic responded to the Committee members’ questions.
The sitting was also attended by the President of the Municipality of Trstenik Miroslav Aleksic who said that nickel exploitation and processing is harmful to human health and the environment, pointing out that the research requires the consent of the Municipality of Trstenik. He then asked whether a feasibility study had been done on nickel research in the area.
Committee member Gordana Comic and concerned MPs who attended the Committee sitting Verica Kalanovic and Nikola Jovanovic asked the Ministry representatives to explain the impact the research would have on the development of the Municipality of Trstenik, asked that a feasibility study on the social justifiability of the project be done and had questions about the issuance procedure of nickel research certificates.
After the debate the Committee adopted the Ministry of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning Activity Information for the period August - September 2013.
The Committee went on to accept the proposal of Committee member Ivan Karic to hold a public hearing at the National Assembly on nickel research and exploitation, the date of which would be determined subsequently.
