33rd Sitting of the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues

At the sitting held on 26 October 2023, the members of the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues considered one item: Providing an opinion to the Constitutional Court regarding the initiative to launch proceedings to assess the compliance with of the provisions of Article 10, paragraph 1, item 18 and Article 56 of the Law on Games of Chance (“RS Official Gazette”, no. 18/20) with the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia.

Committee Chairperson Jelena Zaric Kovacevic reminded the Committee members that on 12 September 2023 the Constitutional Court had requested an opinion from the National Assembly regarding the initiative to launch proceedings to assess the compliance with of the provisions of Article 10, paragraph 1, item 18 and Article 56 of the Law on Games of Chance (“RS Official Gazette”, no. 18/20) with the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, submitted to the Constitutional Court by the Association of Gaming Organisers from Belgrade, to which the Government had forwarded to the National Assembly on 20 October 2023 an opinion on said initiative.

Following a debate, the Committee decided to send the Opinion to the Constitutional Court proposing that the initiative be rejected as unfounded.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Jelena Zaric Kovacevic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Prof. Dr Marko Atlagic, Dr Ugljesa Mrdic, Srdjan Simic, Dr Zika Bujuklic, Olja Petrovic, Zoran Tomic, Jelena Milivojevic, Dubravka Kralj and Sanja Jefic Brankovic.
