25th Sitting of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality

At the sitting held on 16 April, the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality reviewed the Draft Action Plan for Chapter 23.

The sitting was attended by the Director of the Office for Human and Minority Rights of the Government of the Republic of Serbia Suzana Paunovic and Ministry of Justice representatives Vladimir Vukcevic and Darija Koturovic.
Human and Minority Rights Office Director Suzana Paunovic briefed the Committee members on the drafting process of the Action Plan for Chapter 23 in the parts within the Committee’s purview, viz. national minority rights, religious freedoms and gender equality. Suzana Paunovic said that the Action Plan drafting process was transparent and included representatives of the ministries, independent government bodies, experts and a wide selection of NGOs. Considering that the Draft Action Plan is also reviewed by the relevant National Assembly committees and that it will be discussed at a National Assembly sitting, it is important to stress that all relevant social factors took part in its drafting, said the Director of the Office for Human and Minority Rights. She added that it is also important to set up a clear mechanism for the implementation of the Action Plan.
Following a short debate, the Committee decided to give a positive opinion on the Draft Action Plan for Chapter 23 and appointed Committee Chairman Meho Omerovic its rapporteur for the European Integration Committee sitting.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Meho Omerovic.
