23nd Sitting of the European Integration Committee

At the sitting held on 2 September 2021, the members of the European Integration Committee considered the Consumer Protection Bill, submitted by the Government, in principle.


The Bill was presented by State Secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Milos Cvetanovic who stressed that this law has a completely new text and that the goal of this new Law is to ensure a more effective, efficient and better conduct of legislative solutions and harmonisation of consumer rights in the Republic of Serbia with EU consumer laws, which is an obligation Serbia accepted under the Stabilisation and Association Agreement. To that end, the State Secretary said 13 EU consumer rights directives have been implemented.

Cvetanovic who stressed that the consumer protection system needs to be improved in response to new challenges on the world market and added that prescribing a special procedure for extrajudicial resolution of consumer disputes conducted by bodies for extrajudicial resolution of consumer disputes, will ensure a speedy, efficient and effective resolution of consumer complaints to the mutual satisfaction of both consumer and trader.

Following a debate, the Committee members proposed that the National Assembly accept the Consumer Protection Bill in principle.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Elvira Kovacs, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Predrag Rajic, Milan Radin, Nemanja Joksimovic, Vesna Markovic, Dubravka Filipovski, Viktor Jevtovic, Stanislava Janosevic and Dusica Stojkovic.
