21st Sitting of the European Integration Committee

At the sitting held on 12 July 2021, the members of the European Integration Committee considered, in principle, the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Nature Conservation, submitted by the Government.

The Bill was presented by a representative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection who stressed that the reason to pass the proposed amendments to the Law is the need to eliminate certain problems and shortcomings observed in its previous application. Certain provisions of the Law, which refer to the procedure of Assessment of acceptability for the ecological network, as well as the provisions on the ecological network are elaborated and more fully defined, thus defining the process of establishing the ecological network of the Republic of Serbia, i.e. the ecological network of the European Union, NATURA 2000, in line with the requirements of Directive 92/43/EEC on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora and Directive 2009/147/EC on the conservation of wild birds.

By majority vote, the Committee members accepted the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Nature Conservation.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Elvira Kovacs, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Dr Muamer Bacevac, Nemanja Joksimovic, Enis Imamovic, Vesna Markovic, Dubravka Filipovski, Ana Miljanic, Viktor Jevtovic, Stanislava Janosevic and Ana Pesic.
