20th Sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee
At the sitting held on 16 June, the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee conducted an interview with Goran Mesic, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the United States of Mexico, and Vladislav Mladenovic, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the UN European Bureau and other international organisations in Geneva, before their deployment for diplomatic duty.
Ambassador Mesic gave a short overview of the long-standing friendly relations between Serbia and Mexico, forged in 1946. Mexico is the second largest economy in Latin America and 14th in the world, so it is in the Republic of Serbia’s interest to strengthen its bilateral and multilateral positions with Mexico, added Ambassador Mesic.
Presenting the priorities of the Republic of Serbia’s mission to Geneva, Ambassador Mladenovic said that they would follow Serbia’s foreign policy priorities, and remain compliant with protecting Serbia’s interest in international institutions as regards Kosovo-Metohija. Cooperation with the refugee and human rights commissioners would be put in particular focus. Mladenovic also pointed out how important it is for the MPs to take part in the work of international organisations.
The Committee members also reviewed and accepted the invitation to send National Assembly representatives to the Interparliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and Common Security and Defence Policy of the EU, from 4 to 6 September 2013 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Committee also consented, in principle, to the visit of the members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the National Assembly.
The Committee went on to note the standing delegations’ regular activities in the upcoming period and adopted the reports on visits and contacts realised.
The Parliamentary Friendship Group with Peru was also constituted at the sitting, with Dr Aleksandar Radojevic as the Head of the Group.
The sitting was chaired by Milos Aligrudic, Committee Chairman.
