13th Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee
At the sitting held on 28 January, the Security Services Control Committee discussed the allegations of irregularities in the work of the Military Security Agency made by Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic.
Explaining his decision to file criminal charges against the two members of the Military Police for the incident during the Pride Parade in which Prime Minister’s brother Andrej Vucic was beaten up, Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic says he acted in accordance with the law and Constitution of the Republic of Serbia. He said that he never claimed that the Military Security Agency had broken the law during the Pride Parade, but he was informed that this had allegedly happened and was duty-bound to investigate.
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic said that neither the Ministry nor the Military Security Agency would prevent the Ombudsman from controlling their work, but he repeated that he cannot yield the documentation Jankovic asked for without the consent of the Prosecutor’s Office. Gasic also stressed that the Military Security Agency is not spying on anyone and thanked the Ombudsman for confirming it and clearing the officers’ name. The Minister of Defence invited Jankovic to come and conduct a control the military security services.
Having reviewed the allegations of irregularities in the work of the Military Security Agency made by Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic, the Committee members adopted conclusions.
In addition to the Committee members, the sitting was attended by Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic and Director of the Military Security Agency Petar Cvetkovic.
The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Momir Stojanovic.
