11th Sitting of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee

At the sitting held on 12 September in the Ivanjica Municipality building, the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee discussed the agricultural situation in the regions of western, central and southern Serbia.

The sitting was opened by Committee Chairman Marijan Risticevic who said that this was the first Committee sitting, in the current legislature, held outside of the National Assembly headquarters. The participants were also greeted by the President of the Municipality of Ivanjica, Milomir Zoric.

At the beginning of the sitting MP Nevenka Milosevic from Ivanjica outlined the key problems troubling the agricultural producers of Ivanjica, raspberry farmers in particular, followed by problems in the cooperative and relating to anti-hail protection.

The representatives of the municipality of Ivanjica said that the state needed to secure special subsidies for rural areas and the revitalisation of rural roads, suggesting that raspberry be declared a strategic product, instituting municipal forest management fees and launching a potato institute in Guca.

The Committee members appealed to secure subsidies for the mountainous regions, for increased investments into the insurance of crops, fruit and animals, while the representatives of agricultural producers briefed the Committee and the Ministry on the key problems in raspberry and livestock farming in Serbia.

The Committee adopted conclusions on the reviewed agricultural situation in the regions of western, central and southern Serbia.

The sitting was attended by Committee members Velimir Stanojevic, Sabina Dazdarevic, Milija Miletic, Veroljub Matic, Vladan Milosevic, Mladen Lukic, Zoran Antic and Zarko Bogatinovic, and from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection by State Secretary Atila Juhas and Head of Rural Development Dragan Mirkovic.

At the sitting, the Committee also set up a Sub-Committee to tackle agricultural problems in the least developed municipalities of Serbia. The Committee decided that the Sub-Committee is to comprise Milija Miletic as Chairman, Sabina Dazdarevic as Deputy Chairperson and Zarko Bogatinovic and Mladen Lukic as Sub-Committee members.

The sitting was held with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/ Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), via project Strengthening the Oversight Role and Transparency of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Marijan Risticevic.
