Women’s Parliamentary Network Members Meet with Indian Ambassador to Serbia

The members of the Women’s Parliamentary Network met with the Ambassador of the Republic of India, H.E. Narinder Chauhan.

Stefana Miladinovic, coordinator of the Women’s Parliamentary Network, welcomed the Indian Ambassador, opining that the relations between two traditionally friendly countries become deeper every year. She added that Serbia and India have been developing friendly political, economic and cultural relations since the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement, also speaking of the nearly 25 agreements the two countries had signed in numerous spheres and stressing that Serbia finds the development of trade relations between the two countries particularly significant.

On the occasion, the Women’s Parliamentary Network coordinator briefed the Ambassador on the composition and functioning of the Women’s Parliamentary Network, stressing that the membership in it is voluntary, that it includes all the parliamentary parties and that, in addition to socially sensitive topics, the Network mainly focuses on the political and economic empowerment of women in Serbia. Stefana Miladinovic thanked the Ambassador for all the projects the Indian Embassy had conducted in Serbia, hoping that it would continue to do so in the future.

The Indian Ambassador agreed that the two countries enjoy traditionally good and friendly relations, announcing a series of activities planned for the upcoming period which would make Indian culture and tradition more accessible to the citizens of Serbia. Ambassador Narinder Chauhan stressed that India did not endorse the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and thanked Serbia for its support of India in international organisations. She confirmed the importance of the agreements signed by the two countries, emphasising the significance of the cooperation Serbia and India enjoy in the spheres of investment, agriculture, culture, traditional medicine and education.

Speaking of educational cooperation and student exchange, the Ambassador drew attention to the seven-year science development project, inviting additional 35 students from Serbia, who would be provided with scholarships, to come to India. The Ambassador also presented certain projects and the cultural event calendar of the Indian Embassy in Belgrade and invited the members of the Women’s Parliamentary Network to take part in the Embassy’s activities.
