Third Sitting of the Working Group for the Drafting of the Bill on the Serbian Immigrant Society

At the sitting held on 20 October, the members of the Working Group for the Drafting of the Bill on the Serbian Immigrant Society agreed on the further work on the drafting of the final version of the text of the Bill on the Serbian Immigrant Society.

Working Group members from the ranks of MPs, representatives of the ministries of religion and the diaspora, foreign affairs, finance, education and science, as well as a representative of the Serbian Immigrant Society took part in the proceedings.

Exchanging opinions, the Working Group members made several proposals and suggestions aimed at speeding up and completing the work on the final version of the text of the Bill which should regulate the work of this important institution in Serbia. It was opined that the law should be short and capitalize on the experience of the states in the region which have already passed such a law.

The Working Group members agreed that the introductory part of the law should stress that this was an institution of national importance and specify provisions on financing similar to the provisions of the Law on the Matica Srpska Society and SANU and that the term immigrant be defined in accordance with the Law on the Diaspora. The Ministry of Religion and the Diaspora was asked to speed up its activities on the preparation of the law so that it may be presented at a Government sitting and enter assembly procedure as soon as possible.

The Working Group sitting was chaired by Dr Janko Veselinovic, Working Group Chairman.
