Sixth Sitting of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija

In line with article 44, paragraph 4, of the National Assembly Rules of Procedure, the members of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality, the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija and the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region held a joint sitting to review the Missing Persons Commission’s Activity Report covering the period from 1 January to 31 December 2012, and 2013 Activity Plan, adopted by the Government.

The President of the Missing Persons Commission of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Veljko Odalovic, gave a breakdown of the Commission’s activity to the members of the three committees, accompanied by a situation analysis and proposal of measures aimed at addressing the issue of persons missing in the armed conflicts on the territory of former Yugoslavia and the conflict in AP Kosovo-Metohija. Odalovic stated that the Commission had realised its activities according to the 2012 mandate and activity plan. He also listed the proposals and initiatives for cooperation at the bilateral and regional level in order to achieve tangible results as regards the missing persons issue.
In the course of a long discussion, the members of the three committees requested information about the Commission’s financial report, and stressed how important it would be to increase the transparency of the Commission’s work. In the course of the discussion, some committee members objected to the Missing Persons Commission’s Report considering that it had no information on the organ trafficking in Kosovo-Metohija. They also discussed the Commission’s coordination with other relevant state authorities tasked with addressing the missing persons issue. They also stressed that this topic should be part of the political talks with the international community and states in the region.
After the discussion, the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality adopted the Missing Persons Commission’s Activity Report covering the period from 1 January to 31 December 2012, and the 2013 Activity Plan, while the members of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija and the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region would vote on the Report at their upcoming sittings.
The sitting was jointly chaired by the Chairman of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality Meho Omerovic, Chairman of the Committee on Kosovo-Metohija Milovan Drecun and the Chairman of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region Aleksandar Cotric.
