The Report was presented by the President of the National Education Council, Desanka Radunovic. She briefed the Committee members on the Council’s main strategic activity trends in 2012, listing as the most important the establishment of development trends for pre-university education which served as the basis for the drafting of the Education Strategy and for defining the indicators for the assessment of the situation in the sphere of education. She also stressed that, in said period, the National Education Council, among other things, adopted plans and modern programmes for vocational high-schools, adopted programmes for subjects in national minority languages and adopted quality standards for schools and standards for the first level of elementary education.
Commenting on the existing situation in the education system of the Republic of Serbia, the Committee members asked a series of questions and made suggestions relating to the potentials for improving the current situation in the field. They also pointed out the need to amend the laws regulating the field and the need for professional training of the education staff.
Answering the Committee members’ questions, the representatives of the Ministry of Education stressed that they have defined the main education trends in the upcoming period and announced a public debate on the education development strategy in the country.
The Committee members went on to formulate the Proposal of the Decision on the dismissal of Dragoslav Sumarac from the duty of member of the National Council for Higher Education.
The Committee members agreed that they would consider the National Council for Higher Education Activity Report for the period March 2011 – July 2011 at the next sitting.
