National Assembly Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic Receives Russian Ambassador H.E. Alexander Konuzin in Farewell Visit

H.E. Konuzin noted that current events in Serbia and Russia’s bilateral relations are cause for joy, as presidents Putin and Nikolic agreed on the priorities of concrete cooperation in Moscow.

According to Konuzin, two areas appear as primary – cooperation in the field of energy production and the formulated declaration on strategic partnership that he hopes would be adopted after modifications have been incorporated.

Ambassador Konuzin expects that a friendship group would soon be formed at the Serbian Parliament and believes that the two parliaments’ cooperation should address specific issues, agreeing with the assessment of National Assembly Speaker Stefanovic that the assembly committees should take over a significant portion of authority and responsibility not only as regards the control of the executive but also through a more active participation in the creation of conditions conducive to the improvement of economic cooperation.

Finally, Ambassador Konuzin expressed an expectation that the Parliament would confirm that the construction of the Southern Stream is Serbia’s national priority. In the course of his farewell visit, H.E. Ambassador Alexander Konuzin finished his address by noting that Serbia and Russia are on the eve of a new era in their relations which are now becoming a strategic partnership in all spheres.

National Assembly Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic thanked Ambassador Konuzin for the support and efforts he invested in the past four years into furthering the relations between Serbia and Russia and deemed that after the meeting between the presidents of Russia and Serbia, Putin and Nikolic, it is clear that Serbia has entered a new era in the relations between the two countries. He informed Ambassador Konuzin that the process of formation of friendship groups at the Serbian Parliament has begun, adding that he had no doubt that the friendship group with the Russian Federation will again be among the largest ones. National Assembly Speaker Stefanovic expects the finalization of the details of the visit of the State Duma Speaker, who is to head the delegation in the Russian Parliament’s return visit to the National Assembly.

The officials also launched an initiative to expand the scope of cultural cooperation and agreed that the National Assembly could host a Russian art exhibition in the near future.
