The National Assembly delegation headed by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Veroljub Arsic completed its visit to China under the auspices of the Second Meeting of the Commission for Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Chinese National People's Congress, with a meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee Liu Jie in Chengdu.
The Deputy Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee Liu Jie said that the National Assembly delegation’s visit to the province of Sichuan offers a new platform for the development of relations which have ample potential and pointed out that Sichuan is an economically developed region interested in economic cooperation with Serbia, also suggesting an exchange of legislative practice.
The officials agreed that the visits of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to China and Chinese President Xi Jinping to Serbia in 2016 were of historic significance for the cooperation between China and Serbia and opened the doors to many more high official visits raising the cooperation between the two countries to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership.
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Veroljub Arsic said that “China and Serbia are a shining example of how to build an equal partnership”.
Arsic thanked China for its unwavering support of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity stressing that Serbia in turn supports the “One-China policy”.
The head of the Serbian delegation and co-chair of the Commission for Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Chinese National People's Congress briefed the host on the Commission’s second meeting dedicated to topics of common interest, in particular those concerning political, economic and cultural cooperation.
The Chinese side also spoke about its wish and initiative to open a direct flight between Belgrade and Chengdu.
The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with China Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic, Chairperson of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy Snezana B. Petrovic, Chairman of the Health and Family Committee Dr Sci.med Darko Laketic, Chairman of the Culture and Information Committee Mirko Krlic, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society Prof. Dr Ljubisa Stojmirovic and Serbian Ambassador to China H.E. Prof. Dr Milan Bacevic.
