Ambassador Stokvis was pleased to hear about the establishment of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Netherlands at the National Assembly, deeming that the two countries share traditionally good relations and ties, as well as a number of topics of mutual interest such as boosting economic cooperation, trade and culture. He also pointed out the importance of parliamentary cooperation and that there is room for improvement of overall cooperation between the two countries via agricultural, renewable energy and education projects, as well as through direct communication between the two countries parliamentary representatives. He emphasised that parliamentary diplomacy and friendship groups in particular can be the initiators of intensive cooperation in all spheres.
The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Netherlands, Vesna Markovic, thanked the Ambassador for the meeting, opining that the Friendship Group would help boost interparliamentary cooperation between Serbia and the Netherlands. She stressed that heading the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Netherlands is both a great pleasure and an obligation for her and is aimed at deepening the overall bilateral relations between the two countries. She informed the Ambassador about the National Assembly’s activities in the previous period and commended the exchange of experiences in the legislative sphere.
The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Netherlands expect that the Parliamentary Friendship Group’s activity would help further the relations between Serbia and the Netherlands. In the course of the meeting, the officials discussed the legislative activities necessary for the implementation of the reform processes in Serbia.
In addition to the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Netherlands, Vesna Markovic, the meeting with the Dutch Ambassador to Serbia was also attended by Group members Jelena Travar Miljevic, Vesna Milekic, Ivan Karic and Vladimir Marinkovic.
