Members of Parliamentary Friendship Group with Hungary Meet with Hungarian Deputy Ambassador to Serbia

The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Hungary met today, at the National Assembly House, with the Hungarian Deputy Ambassador to Serbia, Zoltán Varga-Haszonits.

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Hungary, Prof. Dr Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic, was pleased that the Hungarian Deputy Ambassador was able to come to the first meeting of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, attended by 15 of its 19 members. She deemed that furthering the two countries parliamentary cooperation shows great potential and friendship groups could significantly contribute to it. Hungary’s experience in the Euro-integration process is invaluable for Serbia, as is its support to Serbia’s progress toward the EU, while Hungary’s experience regarding the harmonisation of national and European legislation and the use of European funds would be particularly useful, said Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic.
Hungarian Deputy Ambassador Zoltán Varga-Haszonits stressed that Hungary, as a neighbouring country, supports Serbia’s progress toward Europe and is ready to offer assistance and the experience it gained in the process. Serbia’s continued approach toward EU membership is important for Hungary as it is of mutual interest and significant for the improvement of regional cooperation, said the Hungarian Deputy Ambassador, adding that there is readiness for intensifying bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the upcoming period.
The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Hungary were unanimous in their estimate that cooperation between Serbia and Hungary in various spheres leaves lots of room for improvement. The mutual understanding and ties between the ethnic minorities living in Serbia and Hungary contributes to it, as does the cross-border cooperation which is important for both countries. The officials hope that the Hungarian Parliament and National Assembly’s respective friendship groups would soon meet and establish excellent cooperation, which would contribute to the further improvement of overall relations between the two countries.
