The project, implemented jointly by the National Assembly and the Hellenic Parliament, is financed by the European Union’s IPA funds and is to run for 18 months, from January 2013 to June 2014, on a budget of 1.5 million EUR.
Opening the meeting, National Assembly Deputy Secretary General Mladen Mladenovic said that the Twinning project with the Hellenic Parliament is the most important one pursued by the National Assembly. He also highlighted its importance as regards strengthening the National Assembly’s role in the European integration process.
Project Leader Vasilios Svolopoulos praised the current high level of cooperation with the National Assembly Service. He also presented the main goals of the project components: improving cooperation between the National Assembly and the Government in the legislative drafting process; improve the work of the National Assembly in the legislative process, and harmonisation with EU legislation in particular; improving the organisational structure, internal procedures and practice; improving the National Assembly’s oversight role and increasing the transparency of the National Assembly’s work.
Fotis Fitsilis, resident Twinning advisor, gave a detailed presentation of the activity plan for the first quarter of project realisation.
