The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Belgium, Dragan Tomic, expressed his pleasure at the intensive contacts between Serbia and Belgium, emphasising the importance of both the economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

The representative of the administration of the French Community of Belgium Charles-Etienne Lagasse stressed that their three-day visit to Serbia and meetings with the representative of the executive and legislative power, aim to promote bilateral relations and cooperation between the French community in Belgium and Serbia.

The Chief of the Balkan Countries Department at the Bilateral Relations Sector, Faket Ahmetaj pointed out that the French community in Belgium and Serbia have enjoyed cultural cooperation since 2005, adding that the current visit has given rise to initiatives to expand the existing cooperation to include education, university exchange, science, technology and environmental protection.

The officials highlighted the importance of environmental cooperation. Using biomass to produce electrical power creates conditions suitable not only to conserving the environment and improving the citizens’ quality of living, but also to economic development and creating new jobs in Serbia, they agreed.

The meeting was also attended by the Belgian Ambassador to Serbia, Alain Kundycki, who was pleased to see the meeting open up new perspectives for cooperation between the French community in Belgium and Serbia.
