The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Armenia, Ivan Jovanovic, said that Serbia and Armenia share traditionally good relations, emphasising the need to continue improving interparliamentary cooperation, especially within the two parliaments’ respective friendship groups. Jovanovic said that the two countries have established cooperation within the spheres of culture and transportation, but there is still room to further improve economic cooperation which would be facilitated by establishing legal conveniences for reciprocal investments.
Emphasising the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, Ambassador Galachian pointed out the potential for intensifying interparliamentary cooperation within the parliamentary friendship groups, as well as the importance of cooperation between Serbian and Armenian parliamentarians in international parliamentary organisations and institutions.
The meeting also touched on the perspectives for developing medical cooperation, as well as exchanging the experience the two countries’ garnered in the transition and European integration processes.
In the course of the meeting, Ambassador Galachian briefed his hosts on the situation in Armenia and the region, drawing attention to similar complexity of the situations in the Balkans and South Caucasus. The officials agreed that all problems should be addressed peacefully and employing diplomatic means.
In addition to the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Armenia, Ivan Jovanovic, the meeting with the Armenian Ambassador was attended by Parliamentary Friendship Group members Zoran Andjelkovic, Vladimir Gordic, Vesna Milekic and Zoran Pralica, as well as the Honorary Consul of Armenia in Belgrade, Predrag Tomic.
