Gojkovic with Korean Company Representatives

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic, currently in official visit to the Republic of Korea, met today in Seoul with LS Group Chairman Christopher Koo to discuss economic cooperation and investment into Serbia.

Gojkovic emphasized the ample opportunities for economic cooperation between Serbia and the Republic of Korea, stressing that Serbia is ready to expand its business ties with the Republic of Korea and Korean companies and adding that Korean factories are currently employing over 6,500 workers in Serbia.

Gojkovic praised the investments realized in Serbia so far, highlighting the importance of the cooperation confirmed by the opening of the Essex Europe enamelled copper wire plant in Zrenjanin, part of LS Group, especially in view of the fact that the factory in Zrenjanin is the first Essex production line in Eastern Europe.

Gojkovic said that the fact that President Aleksandar Vucic was present at the opening of the plant speaks volumes about how important Korean investments are for Serbia, that the country is ready to advance its cooperation with one of the biggest Korean conglomerates – the LS Group.

Serbia’s marked economic growth this year places the country at the top of Europe’s growth rate, said Gojkovic adding that for the third year running Serbia has realized a budgetary surfeit and the 2020 budget is directed toward raising living standards and expediting economic growth.

The Serbian Assembly Speaker is visiting Korea at the invitation of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Moon Hee-sang with whom she signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a view to advancing parliamentary cooperation.

In the course of the visit Gojkovic also met with Yura Corporation CEO Ohm Dae Yeol with whom she spoke about economic cooperation and investment into Serbia.

Gojkovic emphasized the importance of Yura’s 92 million EUR investment into factories in Serbia and creation of 5,500 jobs, hoping that the company would continue to invest into Serbia.
