Fourth Sitting of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending

At the sitting held on 29 May, the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending reviewed the Anti-Corruption Agency 2013 Activity Report with the Report on the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy of the Republic of Serbia for the period 2013 to 2018 and the Action Plan for its implementation.

The Report was presented by the Anti-Corruption Agency Director Tatjana Babic. She said that the Agency’s activities in the past year had mainly been focused on controlling the disposal of public resources, conflict of interest and financing of political activities in particular. According to Tatjana Babic, the Agency had, within its scope, controlled the property of officials and filed nine criminal charges for undeclared property.
The Agency had developed successful cooperation with the Directorate for Prevention of Money Laundering, Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Police, Tax Administration and other institutions. Babic also said that, in the previous year, the Agency had checked the financing of political subjects and two reports covering data on funds spent in political campaigns in 2012 were presented to the public.
The Agency believes that cooperation with the National Assembly should be improved in order to strengthen the National Assembly’s control role, to which end the National Assembly should also review the reports of independent regulatory bodies more often.
The rules stipulated in the Law on the Anti-Corruption Agency should also be reviewed so as to improve the Agency’s efficiency, concluded Tatjana Babic.

Regarding the deliberation on the Report, the Committee adopted the following conclusion:

1. The National Assembly notes that the Anti-Corruption Agency 2013 Activity Report had given a comprehensive overview of the Agency’s work in 2013 on the implementation of the Law on the Anti-Corruption Agency, both the specific activities and results achieved by the Agency in the execution of its control and preventive function, as well as the Agency’s activities on the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy of the Republic of Serbia for the period 2013 to 2018 and the Action Plan for its implementation.

The National Assembly endorses that activities of the Anti-Corruption Agency aimed at strengthening the integrity and accountability of the institutions, officials and staff employed in state administration, in order to suppress corruption in the administration and society as a whole.

2. The conclusion shall be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia.
