Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Meets with OSCE PA Special Representative on South East Europe

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic met today with OSCE PA Special Representative on South East Europe Mark Pritchard to discuss the international organization’s cooperation with the Serbian state authorities and cooperation in the fight against organized crime, money laundering, trafficking in arms, drugs and humans.

OSCE PA Special Representative on South East Europe Mark Pritchard said that the OSCE remains fully committed to the South East European region.

Obradovic and Pritchard discussed the OSCE’s cooperation with the National Assembly and the Government of the Republic of Serbia agreeing that peace in South East Europe means being ready to talk and seek common solutions.

Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic opined that the cooperation between Serbia and the OSCE is good and urged the members of the organization to, when discussing the Balkans and the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, insist on abiding by the principles the organization itself was founded on – human rights and freedom of movement. He stressed that it is time the Balkans moved forwards, but many of the Balkan states have political parties whose agenda is less than future oriented and prevents the region from moving forward. Obradovic added that Serbia is investing considerable effort into being the leader of regional cooperation and regional projects which are a prerequisite of regional stability and security and that, when it comes to combating organized crime, trafficking in arms, drugs and humans and money laundering, it accepts all of the OSCE’s standards.

Speaking of Serbia’s European future, Pritchard said that even though it is leaving the EU, the UK will support the Union’s enlargement, adding that foreign policy needs to be practical, especially in the Balkans. The officials also took the opportunity to discuss advancing parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and the UK.
