Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending Committee Members Meet European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets Delegation

The members of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending met today, at the National Assembly House, with the delegation of the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets, headed by Salvador Garriga Polledo.

Committee Deputy Chairman Radojko Obradovic briefed the guests on the activities of the supreme legislative body and the dynamics of law adoption in the previous period, in the course of which, he said, special attention was paid to strengthening the National Assembly’s control role. Independent state authorities such as the State Audit Institution and the Fiscal Council offer substantial help in the process, said Obradovic adding that one of the Committee’s most important priorities is to determine the efficiency of the Government policy. According to Obradovic, in future, the Committee will strive to get informed about the country’s planned economic policy as soon as possible, which will result in amendments in the Budget System Law and the National Assembly Rules of Procedure.
The Committee members informed the guests on the structure of the basic documents determining the country’s macroeconomic policy framework, how the Republic of Serbia budget funds are allocated and the budget adoption procedure at the National Assembly. In the course of the meeting, the Committee members pointed out the need to reform the pension and disability system which should be adjusted to the basic European guidelines and recommendations. The Committee members also pointed out the need for agrarian policy medium-term planning, which was recognised as one of the basic strategic branches of the country’s development, noting that the budget allocations for the purpose need to be raised.
The meeting was attended by Vincent Degert, Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia.
