In the conversation with Prime Minister Asadov, Dr Orlic stressed that the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia is ready to contribute to the improvement of relations between Serbia and Azerbaijan within its purview, noting with satisfaction that important agreements were ratified in the previous period. He thanked Azerbaijan for supporting Serbia’s candidacy to host EXPO 2027, expressing the expectation that Azerbaijan will take part in this prestigious event.

In the course of the National Assembly Speaker’s meeting with the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, the officials jointly assessed that the two countries maintain a regular political dialogue at all levels, as evidenced by the recent meeting of the heads of diplomacy on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, mutual parliamentary visits, and above all - regular communication between the two presidents of the states.

The topic of improving economic and energy cooperation was on the agenda of both meetings, as well as regional issues of importance. In that regard, Speaker Orlic informed the Azerbaijani officials in detail about the difficult situation in Kosovo-Metohija, the daily terror and violence Pristina perpetrates against the Serbian people in its flagrant attempts to provoke escalation, destroy any dialogue and permanently threaten peace. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the position of the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding the non-recognition of so-called "Kosovo" remains firm and unchanging, just like the position that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country must be respected as a matter of principle.

In the course of the meetings, both sides expressed a strong commitment to continuing the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, based on mutual respect, trust and understanding.

As part of his visit to Baku and after the meetings in the Government of Azerbaijan, the Serbian National Assembly Speaker visited the Serbian Language and Culture Centre of the Azerbaijani University of Languages, opened in May 2018 by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic. On the occasion, Dr Orlic met with the Rector of the University, Kamal Abdullayev, who expressed his gratitude to the state of Serbia and its leadership for supporting the functioning of the Centre. Dr Orlic also spoke with the professors and students of the Serbian language, whom he presented with textbooks, a replica of the Sretenje Constitution and other titles that will bring them closer to the culture, tradition and history of the Serbian people.
