The Report was presented to the Committee members by Prof. Dr Srdjan Stankovic, President of the National Council for Higher Education, who, on the occasion, stressed that the reported period contains data on the external quality control of higher education institutions implemented jointly by the National Council for Higher Education and the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission. The Council President drew attention to the data related to the establishment of minimum criteria for the selection of teachers in higher education institutions and informed the Committee members that the National Council for Higher Education had given an advisory opinion on the 2020 Education Development Strategy Proposal.
The President of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission, Vera Vujicic, briefed the Committee members on the process of accreditation in the Republic of Serbia implemented since 2006, on accreditation standards, as well as on the funding problems encountered by the Commission, as a body of the National Council for Higher Education.
The sitting was attended by the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development, Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic, who informed the Committee members that talks are currently underway with the Ministry of Finance on how to overcome the funding problems of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission.
In the ensuing debate, the Committee members, among other things, requested further explanation of the minimum criteria for the selection of teachers in higher education institutions and perspectives for scholarships for members of the Serbian national community in the diaspora.
The Committee went on to unanimously adopt the National Education Council 2011 Activity Report and the National Council for Higher Education Activity Report for the period March 2011 – July 2011.
