Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society Meets with Czech Parliamentary Delegation

The Chairman and members of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society met today at the National Assembly with a delegation of the Czech Parliamentary Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport currently in official visit to Serbia.


Dr Muamer Zukorlic, Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society, stressed that the two countries share a rich history of cooperation, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in the field of education in light of Serbia’s ongoing reform of the education system.

Speaking of the strong cultural and historical ties between the Serbian and Czech people, Vaclav Klaus, Chairman of the Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport of the Czech Parliament, said that there is ample room to advance it, adding that the Czech Parliament and the Committee he heads stand ready to support project Days of Serbian Culture in Prague and Days of Czech Culture in Belgrade.

The meeting with the Czech delegation was also attended by Deputy Chairman Prof. Dr Ljubisa Stojmirovic, Committee members Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic, Dr Vladimir Orlic and Olena Papuga and Czech Ambassador to Serbia Tomas Kuchta.

The officials agreed that there is potential to improve cooperation at the level of secondary and higher education. Joint education projects, scientific research and ties between the two countries’ industries, the parliamentarians agreed, would contribute to the development of relations between Serbia and the Czech Republic.

Vaclav Klaus also spoke about the importance of preserving the elementary schools in the municipalities of Bela Crkva and Kovin, so vital for the Czech national minority, despite their economic unsustainability.

The officials also discussed Serbia’s European integration. Dr Vladimir Orlic thanked the Czech Republic for its support of Serbia’s efforts to join the European Union and the support for the continuation of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
