Board of Inquiry Charged with Ascertaining the Truth about New-born Babies Abducted from Maternity Wards in Several Serbian Cities

At its second session, the Board of Inquiry Charged with Ascertaining the Truth about New-born Babies Abducted from Maternity Wards in Several Serbian Cities held a meeting with a group of parents who had expressed the desire to assist the Committee in its work.


At its second session, the Board of Inquiry Charged with Ascertaining the Truth about New-born Babies Abducted from Maternity Wards in Several Serbian Cities held a meeting with a group of parents who had expressed the desire to assist the Committee in its work.

Based on the talks with the parents, the Board was able to ascertain that mistakes were made in keeping medical records and in the work of registry authorities, as well as that parents were restricted access to information. Certain officials gave them wrong interpretations of the law and other regulations.

Cases received by the public prosecutor’s office were returned to parents with the explanation that the cases were invalidated by the statute of limitations, which was an obstruction to ascertaining the truth.

The Board of Inquiry Charged with Ascertaining the Truth about New-born Babies Abducted from Maternity Wards in Several Serbian Cities held its third session on 6 September.

In talks a group of parents, the Board was able to ascertain that mistakes were made in keeping medical records, as well as that parents were not adequately informed of the fate of their newborn children.

At its fourth session, the Board of Inquiry Charged with Ascertaining the Truth about New-born Babies Abducted from Maternity Wards in Several Serbian Cities continued talks with parents whose children consider their children are missing.

As in previous talks, the parents informed members of the Board that numerous mistakes were made in keeping medical records and in communicating with parents.

The Board of Inquiry continues its work.
