Another Meeting of National Assembly Speaker and Representatives of Parliamentary Groups, National Minority Political Parties and Civil Society Organisations

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic held another meeting with representatives of parliamentary groups, national minority political parties and civil society organisations. The meeting focused on the formation of working bodies for the improvement of the electoral process and the inspection, control and revision of the electoral roll.

At the nearly two-hour long meeting, the parties reached an agreement concerning the formation of the Working Group for the Improvement of the Electoral Process, that is, the fulfilment of the ODIHR's recommendations. At the request of the members of the opposition, the Working Group will be chaired by representatives of civil society, and its formation is scheduled for Monday, 29 April. The session of the competent Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues was convened for Monday at noon.

As for the formation of the Working Group for inspection, revision and control of the electoral roll, no agreement was reached. The MPs of the ruling majority proposed, for the sake of efficiency, the formation of a working body, which could start working immediately. At the express request of the opposition MPs and representatives of civil society organisations, that proposal was not accepted. Following a long discussion, the National Assembly Speaker accepted the proposal of the opposition and civil society organisations for the formation of a commission by the National Assembly, with previous amendments and modifications to the relevant laws.

The meeting was attended by representatives of parliamentary groups ALEKSANDAR VUCIC – Serbia Must Not Stop, People’s Movement of Serbia - New Face of Serbia, Ivica Dacic - Socialist Party of Serbia, Green–Left Front - Don’t Let Belgrade D(r)оwn, We – Voice From the People, PUPS – Solidarity and Justice, Social Democratic Party of Serbia, PS-NSS-USS-RS, Dragan Markovic Palma - United Serbia, Ecological Uprising, as well as representatives of civil society organsations CRTA, Transparency Serbia and CeSID.
