26th Sitting of the Subcommittee for Monitoring the Agricultural Situation in the Marginal - Most Undeveloped Areas in the Republic of Serbia

At the sitting held on 23 January, the members of the Subcommittee for Monitoring the Agricultural Situation in the Marginal - Most Undeveloped Areas in the Republic of Serbia discussed leasing state-owned agricultural land as a viable option for the agricultural development of underdeveloped areas.

Subcommittee Chairman Milija Miletic and the Subcommittee members spoke with a state secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, the head of the Agricultural Land Directorate and a professor of the Faculty of Civil Engineering about the state’s property rights as regards agricultural land. They said that the final deadline for the local self-governments to call a public auction for state-owned agricultural land is 31 March 2018.

In the ensuing debate the officials concluded that it is essential to establish better cooperation between the Agricultural Land Directorate, local self-governments and the cadastre.

They also discussed the positive effects of the Law on Agricultural Land stating that since its coming into force over 30,000 ha of state-owned agricultural land has been leased to local self-governments. The Subcommittee Chairman said it would be good to re-launch the procedure to amend the Law regulating the return of rough grazings and pastures to villages for use.

Following the discussion, Subcommittee Chairman Milija Miletic proposed a number of conclusions which the Subcommittee then adopted.

The sitting was chaired by Subcommittee Chairman Milija Miletic, and attended by Subcommittee members Mladen Lukic, Zarko Bogatinovic and Dalibor Radicevic.
