13th Sitting of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications

At the sitting held on 8 May, the members of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications discussed, in principle, the Railway Bill, submitted by the Government.

The Bill was elaborated by Assistant Minister for Railway and Intermodal Transport Dejan Lasica who said that the Bill’s main goals are improving the efficiency of the railway network and integration into the European Union transport service system and railway system. He added that the reason for the transformation of the railway is to rationalise its business dealings, thus enabling the railway itself to earn the money to pay its employees, while the budgetary funds would be invested into infrastructure and passenger transport.
Following a short debate on the rationalisation of the business dealings of the railway and market liberalisation, the Committee members accepted the Railway Bill in principle, by a majority of votes.
The Committee members went on to accept, by a majority of votes, the Bill on the Confirmation of the Strasbourg Convention on the Limitation of Liability in Inland Navigation (CLNI 2012) and the Bill on the Confirmation of the Maritime Transport Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and Government of the Republic of Cyprus, presented by Mirjana Trifunovic Assistant Minister for Water Traffic and Navigation Safety.

This sitting was chaired by Dejan Radenkovic, Committee Chairman.
