13th Sitting of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee

At the sitting held on 20 August, the members of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee reviewed the Report of the Republic Directorate for Commodity Reserves on the purchased amounts of mercantile wheat and possibilities and willingness to purchase additional amounts of mercantile wheat and adequate amounts of mercantile corn accompanied by a report on the purchase; proposals of the Novi Sad Farmers’ Association; Information of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management on the drought and measures employed to relieve the damages; Information on cooperation with IPARD (pre-accession funds); Information on the establishment of a national reference laboratory for food safety control and proposal to hold a Committee sitting outside of the National Assembly headquarters, in Cajetina.


The Report of the Republic Directorate for Commodity Reserves on the purchased amounts of mercantile wheat and possibilities and readiness to purchase additional amounts of mercantile wheat and adequate amounts of mercantile corn accompanied by a report on the purchase was presented by the Director of the Republic Directorate for Commodity Reserves, Goran Tasic.
By a majority of votes, the Committee members concluded to ask the Government of the Republic of Serbia to look into the prospects for purchasing 150 thousand tons of mercantile wheat at the price of 20 RSD and 200 thousand tons of mercantile corn at the price of 16 RSD.
The proposals of the Novi Sad Farmers’ Association were presented by the farmers’ representatives, Miroslav Kis, Goran Vasic and Zlatko Ralevic. They pointed out that agricultural production suffers from many problems, listing as the most important ones the fact that there is no agricultural and rural development strategy, insufficient allocations for agriculture, and the need to improve the Law on incentives and rural development in the interest of the small family household.
Following a debate, the Committee members adopted the conclusion to forward the proposals of the Novi Sad Farmers’ Association to the Ministry of Agriculture so that they may be aware of them as they draft strategies, laws and by-laws.
The Committee members unanimously accepted the proposal to hold a Committee sitting outside of the National Assembly headquarters, in Cajetina.
The Committee members went on to review the Information of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management on the drought and measures employed to relieve the damages, Information on cooperation with IPARD (pre-accession funds) and the Information on the establishment of a national reference laboratory for food safety control.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Aleksandar Senic.
