National Assembly Speaker Dr Nebojsa Stefanovic Receives Montenegrin Parliament Speaker and OSCE PA President Ranko Krivokapic

National Assembly Speaker Dr Nebojsa Stefanovic received the Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Ranko Krivokapic.


The National Assembly Speaker was pleased that this was the first official bilateral meeting, although there have been several at the margins multilateral meetings. Speaker Stefanovic congratulated Ranko Krivokapic on his election for President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and, in the context of the two countries’ progress in the Euro-integration process, he advocated substantial and effective interparliamentary cooperation, primarily by establishing an exchange of experiences and direct cooperation between the two parliaments’ working bodies and spoke in favour of continuing their intensive cooperation in international organisations. Stefanovic informed the guests about the reform activities aimed at allowing the National Assembly to fully contribute to European integration. He emphasised the National Assembly’s transparency, especially via media coverage, as an important dimension of parliamentary work. He also stressed the importance of boosting economic cooperation specifically by possible joint tourist offers, underlining the improvement of infrastructure in that context.
The Montenegrin Parliament Speaker thanked the National Assembly Speaker for the congratulations on his the election for President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, and especially for the National Assembly delegation’s support, underlining the importance of regional cooperation at the multilateral level. He informed the National Assembly Speaker about the activities of the Montenegrin Parliament as regards strengthening its oversight function via parliamentary hearings and special working bodies, sdrawing special attention to the adoption of the Law on Parliamentary Investigation, as well as the development of other parliamentary mechanisms for the benefit of the citizens and general public. He also spoke in favour of cultivating parliamentarism and dialogue to achieve a uniform approach to key political issues. He agreed that exchanging experiences at the interparliamentary level is very important, especially in the context of Euro-integration. Krivokapic agreed that it is important to promote cooperation in the sphere of tourism and endorsed the further development of infrastructure i.e. road and railway network.
