National Assembly Deputy Speaker and PABSEC Vice-President Igor Becic in Election Observation Mission in Azerbaijan

At the invitation of the Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan (Milli Majlis) Ogtay Asadov and the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) Asaf Hajiyev, National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation MA Igor Becic took part in the election observation mission in Azerbaijan.


In the course of the two-day stay, PABSEC Vice-President Becic visited a number of polling stations in Baku, the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and ascertained the regularity of the election procedure. He also gave several interviews and press statements to the media accredited to follow the elections. At the press conference on Monday, 2 November, he stated that the parliamentary elections held on Sunday, 1 November, in the Republic of Azerbaijan, were conducted in a democratic atmosphere and that the election day had been orderly, with no incident or complaints. He said he was very pleased that he was accompanied to Azerbaijan by 10 National Assembly MPs, also as election observers, through the Council of Europe PA mission and at the invitation of the Azerbaijani Parliament. The National Assembly MPs agreed that the parliamentary elections were conducted in the spirit of democracy, that all the standards were observed and the citizens of Azerbaijan had fully exercised their electoral will. In conclusion, PABSEC Vice-President Becic said he was sure this visit, assessment and result of the parliamentary elections would contribute to a better and more comprehensive parliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia.

On the behalf of PABSEC, the observation mission also included representatives of Bulgaria, Romania and Greece.
