Greeting the guests, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Veroljub Arsic said he was very pleased by the regular and intensive contacts between Serbia and Germany. He opined that the relations between Serbia and Germany have reached a historic peak, that they enjoy a high level of interparliamentary cooperation, but that there is still room for improvement. Arsic thanked Germany for its help after the May floods and the support it provides to Serbia’s Euro-integration process.

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker briefed the German MP about the Serbian Government’s austerity measures highlighting the intensive legislative activity aimed at creating a favourable investment climate for foreign investors. Kalb informed Arsic that the German regional bank has confirmed its readiness to provide loans in support of regional economic development, opining that there is room to support local economy as well.

Bartholomäus Kalb was pleased to hear about the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Germany at the Serbian Parliament deeming that its extensive membership proves Serbia’s high opinion of the cooperation with Germany. He also spoke of Bundestag’s International Scholarship programme via which young people from Serbia would be given the opportunity to spend five months in Berlin.
