Greeting the guest on the behalf of the National Assembly Speaker and himself, Veroljub Arsic noted that even though the relations between Germany and Serbia have reached a historical peak, their cooperation continues to follow an upward trend, adding that this was evidenced in the personnel and technical aid Germany dispatched to Serbia in assistance during the May floods. The National Assembly Deputy Speaker emphasised the importance of interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries, thanking Germany for its help in Serbia’s progress toward full EU membership.

Christoph Strässer agreed that the relations between Serbia and Germany are good, adding that he believed the two countries’ respective parliaments have greatly contributed to it. Speaking of the importance of interparliamentary cooperation between Serbia and Germany, Strässer said how pleased he was to hear that the Serbian Parliament had set up a Parliamentary Friendship Group with Germany. As regards Serbia’s on-going talks with the European Union, Strässer highlighted the importance of opening chapters 23 and 24. The German Federal Government Commissioner was also interested in the National Assembly’s role and duties as regards Euro-integration, as well as the Serbian Parliament’s operation and organisation.
