Members of the Gender Equality Committee Talk To Delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran

Deputy Chairperson of the Gender Equality Committee, Nadica Momirov, and Committee members Milica Vojic-Markovic and Zorica Kovacevic talked today at the National Assembly House to Tahreh Nazari, Director General of the Directorate for Women’s International Affairs and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran and counsel to the head of Iranian diplomacy.



Deputy Chairperson of the Gender Equality Committee, Nadica Momirov, and Committee members Milica Vojic-Markovic and Zorica Kovacevic talked today at the National Assembly House to Tahreh Nazari, Director General of the Directorate for Women’s International Affairs and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran and counsel to the head of Iranian diplomacy.

The focus of attention was the position of women in Iran and Serbia. Nadica Momirov briefed the guests on the activities of the Gender Equality Committee pointing out that the Committee’s key task is to repeat the procedure for passing the law on gender equality and expedite its adoption. She reminded all present that the Proposal of the Declaration on the Prevention of Violence Against Women is also waiting to be adopted at the National Assembly.

Tahreh Nazari briefed her hosts on the current position of women in Iran stressing their important place in Iranian society. According to her, a sweeping movement for the improvement of the position of women in Iran is underway adding that gender equality must be applied in all spheres of life. Tahreh Nazari stated that 64% of all students are women, and that they also comprise 35% of the total number of employees in the land. Involvement of women in political life in Iran has also been increased on all levels, so that the percentage of their involvement in local self-government is raised by 70% compared with the previous period.

During the talk the participants expressed their readiness to intensify the cooperation of the two parliaments’ committees dealing with gender equality issues with the goal of exchanging experiences about the position of women. Also, it was concluded the formation of a friendship group with Iran at the National Assembly will contribute to the increase of overall parliamentary cooperation.
