Members of the Commission Monitoring the Execution of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 - Women, Peace and Security in the Republic of Serbia (2010-2015) Talk to UNDP/SEESAC Representatives

The Chairperson of the Commission Monitoring the Execution of the National Action Plan for the Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 - Women, Peace and Security in the Republic of Serbia (2010-2015), Zlata Djeric and Commission members Katarina Rakic and Milovan Drecun, met today, at the National Assembly House, with the representatives of the UNDP South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of the Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC).

They discussed the specifics of the future cooperation between the Commission and UNDP/SEESAC related to joint activities on the execution of the Action Plan for the implementation of UNSC Resolution 1325.
Commission Chairperson Zlata Djeric stressed that, though Resolution 1325 is not binding, Serbia has approached the execution of the Action Plan for its implementation very responsibly, and added that she hoped that the UNDP/ SEESAC experience would prove useful for the Commission’s efforts toward implementing high quality legislation in the sphere.
The Head of the UNDP/SEESAC Office, Ivan Zverzhanovski, briefed the Commission members on the activities of the Office which had started the implementation of its three-year project with the defence ministries of four selected Western Balkan states (Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia) in 2012, aimed at offering support for the integration of a gender perspective in the defence ministries and armed forces, so as to enable the employment and presence of more women in the army.
At the meeting, the participants also agreed that the future activities should be aimed at monitoring the recruitment of women into the army and the police and ensuring adequate conditions for their work, advancement, and promotion of women in the army and police by the media.
The meeting was also attended by the Members of the UNDP/SEESAC Office Bojana Balon and Danijela Djurovic.
