Meho Omerovic and Sasa Jankovic defined the priority issues the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality and the Ombudsman are to tackle in the next year. As the most important issues that need to be resolved by the end of 2014 they highlighted the issues of asylum and illegal immigrants and child beggars in the streets. They also mentioned the issue of kidnapped and missing persons on the territory of Serbia as well as refugees and internally displaced persons as problems to be jointly addressed by the Committee and Ombudsman.

The meeting also touched on the need to amend the existing Law on the Ombudsman in order to strengthen the institution of ombudsman, the potentials for improving the cooperation between the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality and the Ombudsman with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and YUCOM and the activity plan for the next year.

The sitting was also attended by the Ombudsman’s Secretary General Jasminka Jakovljevic and representatives of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Karen Wagner, Novak Pesic and Natasa Sakota.
